Shine the Light
‘Shine the Light’ was a community project set up by a group of local residents to gently up-light the parish War Memorial in Hollins Green so it could proudly be seen both night and day.
The project was completed in November in time for the end of the 100yr commemoration of the First World War.
As a tribute to the fallen heroes and as a fitting end to the project, the committee also organised a ‘100yr Commemoration of the Great War 1914-1918’ event which was held on Saturday 10th November 2018 and was attended by 200 people. One attendee Sheila Breese said: “Thank you so much to the committee for a wonderful evening, I shall always have lovely warm memories. The work and research put in to all of it was extraordinary. A very emotional and learning experience and a truly special time for everyone, full of compassion and love for our community past and present.”
The evening also raised £894 which was given to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. The committee thanked everyone for their support and kindness throughout the project.
