Blowing Away the Cobwebs!

Thirty eight people donned their boots to take part in a 4 mile guided walk around the footpaths and lanes of Rixton-with-Glazebrook on the 8th January. The Winter Walk was organised by the Parish Plan Recreation & Leisure Group to help blow away the Christmas cobwebs.

Starting from the Black Swan car park the group were guided on a circular walk to enjoy the rural views across farmland and pastures. The route took walkers into Rixton Claypits Nature Reserve, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), where they could enjoy rambling through woodland and beside ponds.

A pit stop was taken at the Claypits Visitors Centre where walkers were treated to a hot drink and home-made cakes organised by the group and donated by local residents. The Parish Plan funds were boosted by over £70 thanks to the kind donations from the walkers.

John Eccles who led the walk said “We were really pleased with the turnout. Everybody enjoyed the walk that much that the Group are looking at organising another one in the Summer. Meanwhile, if anyone is interested in exploring the footpaths around Rixton-with-Glazebrook they can follow one or more of the 5 written guides which range from 1.5 miles to 4 miles“.

The guides called ‘Footpaths Around Rixton’ are free to download by clicking on  Footpaths around Rixton  or they can be picked up from the Hamilton Davies Trust, Cadishead Library, Hollins Green Village Shop, The Black Swan, The Red Lion or Glazebrook Post Office.
