Footpaths around Rixton
Walks vary in length from 1.5 miles to 4.5 miles – all on level terrain. Boots or strong footwear recommended. Walks start from the lay-by on Manchester Road, Hollins Green.
The No. 100 bus from Warrington and Manchester stops outside The Black Swan pub on Manchester Road near to the start of the walk. Walk leaflets include map, local illustrations and a few historical points of interest. Refreshments are available on route at: – The Black Swan and Ye Olde Red Lion pubs in Hollins Green – Hollins Green Community Shop – Glazebrook Post Office – The LA Cafe, near Rixton Claypits Nature Reserve Walk.
Leaflets are freely available to pick up from local facilities in Rixton-with-Glazebrook and also from Cadishead Library, Irlam Library and The Hamilton Davies Trust. Alternatively walks can be downloaded from this website.
The LA Cafe on Moat Lane, Rixton off the A57 Manchester Road, is an alternative starting point to some of the ‘Footpaths around Rixton’ walks. Several changes have been made to the truckstop diner and it now offers a family friendly eatery with hot and cold food or just a drink and a warm welcome. Opening times : 7.30 am – 2.30 pm Mon – Fri 7.30 am – 1.30 pm Sat Closed Sunday Contact Lynn on 07594 954647.
Early Bird walkers may like to know that on Saturday mornings between 10am – 12noon light refreshments can be obtained along some of the walk routes at: Glazebrook Methodist Church – 1st Saturday of each month Rixton Methodist Church – 3rd Saturday of each month St. Helen’s Church – 4th Saturday of each month
