Irlam Station House

Sitting proudly on the Manchester bound platform – Irlam Station House is a magnificent combination of exuberant Victorian style, architectural flair and traditional community pride.

Built in 1893 during the golden age of railways, this flamboyant red brick structure underwent extensive restoration work as part of the Irlam Station Transformation project. The building now combines original architectural features with the introduction of some great new modern facilities offering visitors a taste of the present and flavor of the past.

Inside this unique venue – the sumptuous period decor provides a relaxing and absorbing atmosphere across two floors. The Café Bistro serves freshly prepared food and drink in a stylish environment where you can wait for your train, access new toilet facilities, enjoy free wi-fi and gather with family, friends or colleagues in extraordinary meeting spaces. It is also a venue for social and family functions or business meetings that has no equal. Available for private hire or individual areas can be reserved for smaller intimate gatherings. Whether it’s a wedding, christening, or business meeting this unique venue can add a special touch to any event.

Station House is also a Heritage Hub. Throughout the building you can see fascinating artefacts, memorabilia and works of art illustrating Irlam and Cadishead’s impressive industrial heritage – and all for FREE. Definitely worth more than just a brief encounter!

The Station surrounding areas offer more heritage including a Signal Box & Signal Yard exhibit; ‘Wheels of Local Industry’ display; heritage boards depicting former local industries and 3D quirky art pieces. Station Park is open to the public 24/7 and is a peaceful green space for both people and wildlife. The station garden and grassed areas, bordered with plants and shrubs add splashes of vivid colour throughout the year. A map has been produced to help guide visitors around the station environs and can be found on the station forecourt and at the Liverpool Rd entrance to Station Park.
