Light at the end of the tunnel!

The Shine The Light group are excited to be nearing their final goal of gently up-lighting the War Memorial.

After several years of planning and meetings everything is ready to go, as soon as funding is secured.  The Group and its supporters have already raised a huge sum towards the project and are continuing to raise funds and apply for grants to see the memorial uplit in time for the 100 year commemoration in November.

The Group are also leading on a special commemorative event to be held at the Community Hall, Hollins Green on Saturday 10th November – more details to come.

The project will also support educational learning as the ‘Shiners’ are producing a booklet about the War Memorial and ‘Our Boys’ as well as placing a special temporary memorial on the cemetery railings adjacent to the cenotaph.  All these will celebrate the lives of the local lads named on the war memorial, who lost their lives for their country.
