A blooming marvellous day out!

Several aliens as well as 98 visitors descended on Rixton-with-Glazebrook for the 2017 Garden Safari event!

With the sun shining, visitors travelled around the beautiful rural lanes of the Parish to wander around a variety of 10 open gardens, picking up ideas and tips on the way. The Alien themed scarecrows raised many a smile too, thanks to the imaginative creations of the children from the local Pre-School, School, Dance Rhythm class, Beavers and Cubs groups as well as the Barbers shop in Hollins Green!

Cadishead resident Pat Harrison said: “Thank you to everyone involved with the Garden Safari event, especially those who very kindly opened their lovely gardens for all to see. We really enjoyed the day walking around the village visiting the gardens, and it was lovely to see so many other people enjoying themselves. There are some gifted garden designers in our community – their love of gardens showed in the planting and design, they were truly beautiful. The route was well planned and included some very nice refreshment stops along the way. And, who can resist a plant sale…we headed home with bags overflowing and full of inspiration!”

The garden owners also had a lovely day opening their gardens and sharing their love of gardening with visitors both local and from Warrington, Birchwood, Irlam, Cadishead, Leigh and Lymm.

As well as being a blooming marvellous day out for all, the event also raised £661 for future Rixton-with-Glazebrook Parish Plan projects from the sale of programmes, which were produced by the Hamilton Davies Trust. The 3 local churches also raised funds from the sale of refreshments, plants and nearly new items. Staff and volunteers from the community Village Shop in Hollins Green welcomed new customers offering them coffee, cake and the chance to buy locally grown bedding plants. The local art class were also involved in the day’s event, showcasing their unique and colourful works of art in the Community Hall and Cadishead Band kindly entertained visitors to Rixton Methodist Church with some of their popular lively tunes whilst visitors enjoyed some tasty home-made fayre.

The Garden Safari is held annually, usually on the first or second Saturday in June. To view images from previous Garden Safari events click on the link https://rixtonwithglazebrook.net/locations/garden-safari/
